Fuck Yeah, Palaeontology Pentaceratops!
I LIVE

First off I would like to apologise for the horrendously long hiatus. It’s been due to a lethal combination of uni work, procrastination, and the meme base being deleted off the generator I was using to make these.

We will return, though, so hold on to your butts.

OK, so after watching Dinosaur Revolution, I have to wonder what, exactly, was meant to be revolutionary in that show. Maybe it was the CGI dinosaurs, which were certainly among the best I’ve seen in a TV show. Certainly wasn’t the science, which was either rehashing familiar stuff or just flat-out inferring things (much to the detriment of the Cryolophosaurus scene, where the whole thing falls down if you know anything about animal breeding behaviour and how this affects their biology).

‘Cause there’s this new doco called Dinosaur Revolution. It was originally titled Reign of the Dinosaurs, but then they changed the name for some reason.
Anyway I’m going to get around to watching it soon.

Apparently there was this expert on the foraminifera (shelled plankton, basically) who was basically at the top of his field.
And then he proposed that all life is made of forams.
Career suicide.

Fossilised dung (formally known as coprolites) is actually a very important source of information on the diets of ancient animals. It can be dissected to see what is contained within. This can show the diet of the animal that it came from, as well as feeding styles.
Though coprolites usually get presented as ‘Eww, yuck!’ whenever they are mentioned in popular science writing.
